DIY How to: Crocheted Glasses Cord

DIY Glasses Cord

Hey there people and happy Tuesday to you. I hope you're having a good day, wherever in the world you may be. This is my final week of holidays before school starts again in earnest. So I am really making the most of it - trying to get lots of things done before the daily grind kicks in again.

I thought I'd show you a really simple tutorial today - and one that I have found really useful. As I have mentioned before I have new reading glasses. I have found it difficult to adjust to first of all remembering to put them on (when I'm reading/on the computer), then remembering to take them off when I'm not supposed to use them (watching TV etc)! I figured that one way to make this easier would be to have a cord to keep them with me, so I made one. If you'd like to make one, here's how:

You will need: Scissors, a crochet hook and some wool.

 1. Making a slip knot: loop your wool as per the above picture, then pull the longer end of wool through the whole to create a slip knot which looks like this:

2. Hook the slip knot over your crochet hook and pull tight (as per the above picture).

3. Loop the longer thread around the crochet hook again, next to your original knot. Pull the new thread through the original know to create your second stitch! It will look like this:

4. Pull the stitch tight and repeat that same motion over and over until you have a line of stitches like this:

5. Keep going until your chain of stitches is long enough for your glasses to fit comfortably around your neck. Just measure it round your neck if you're not sure!

6. Once it's long enough, cut off your wool from the main ball and tie two knots in the end to secure it. Leave the final stitch fairly tight, as it has to hold your glasses!

7. Attach to your glasses as per the above picture. Simply push the arms of your glasses through the end stitches.

8. Wrap the loose ends around your stitches and knot tightly twice, so that your glasses won't fall off their chain.

 9. Cut off any extra wool.
