Insta-Art (WOYWW)

Insta Art

Hey there people and Happy Wednesday to you, wherever in the world you may be. Today I am excited to share with you another episode of my art series on my little blog - Insta-Art.

I love sharing the process behind my art here on the blog. Seeing works go from a blank page to a finished piece is so much fun! It also might inspire you and your art work too!

Here it is: the intimidating blank canvas!

First, a coat of gel medium then ...

 ... vintage collage!

I combined book pages with musical manuscript to give it more variety.

After I'd left it to dry overnight, here it was. Ready to paint!

I used metallics, yellows and whites with some burnt umber as my background.

Instead of leaving it to dry though, I took a damp cloth and rubbed away some of the paint to reveal the vintage papers beneath.

Now I began to paint in my tree for the family. Again using burnt umber and bronze metallic acrylic as my colour scheme.

Here are my photos for the family tree - cute eh?

I decided to back them on gold distressed card to act as frames.

I wasn't totally happy with the result though, so....

Off came the photos and a rethink happened.

 Bye bye cute photos!

I decided to collage the tree with manuscript paper ...

...  I even added some leaves this time!

I used the vintage book pages as frames this time, and distressed them with chalks and inks.

And here is the finished article - already listed in my store!

I hope you enjoyed this peek into my process - I enjoy sharing the step by step with you a lot. Even if my camera doesn't (it has an awful lot of paint splodges all over it, that's for sure!)

Have a great day people!

Great work! And what fun to paint and layer and paint some more. I like that you're not afraid to try different things and try a new approach if it's not working. Your final piece is awesome!

Great stuff Sarah, really nice to see your process and your thoughts - I really like the result, the collaged tree adds to the effect of the potential of generations on the tree. Lovely.

You showed Art is fun and that you don't have to stop at the first picture, take it apart and do it again. Love it. Thanks, Blessings, Janet PPF
